Landlords evict tenants ahead of Section 21 disappearing

marcfaubeau

Landlords have started evicting tenants ahead of Government plans to scrap Section 21 "no-fault" evictions this year. In the last three months of 2021, 5,260 households in England registered as homeless as a result of a Section 21, Government data showed – 41% higher than in 2019. Ben Beadle, of the National Residential Landlords Association, warned that abolishing Section 21 would make tenants feel less obliged to pay rent. Landlords have argued that scrapping Section 21 will also make it much harder for lower income tenants to find properties. If landlords are only able to evict tenants using Section 8, more renters will have county court judgements against them, hitting their credit ratings.
